Cold, Dead Eyes

Cold, Dead Eyes

A Poem by OneAmongstMany

Cold, Dead Eyes

Wandering through the sticky streets

Grey skies and stifling cloud

A million stories never known

Concealed within the crowd.

They would never share those tales

Each wears his faux disguise

There’s fear and love within them all

Behind those cold, dead eyes.

They reveal it in their quiet moments

To those they hold most dear

But as for strangers, humankind

They would not shed a tear.

Can we ever live and love

Or are they separate quests?

Within these passing stone-faced figures

There’s sympathy suppressed.

Just let it shine, be a beacon;

There’s enough light in us for all!

Do not hold back your human heart

However big or small.

There is a place which I can see

Where that light never dies

It dazzles for a fleeting moment

Then breathes life into your eyes.

I really like the tone and the build up here. Sometimes building up in poetry means we can end up flat in the conclusion. this was not the case here and that's why it's so impressive. great job!

Coming through. That is what this said to me. Coming through and learning. It builds well to a lovely conclusion.

I loved it! You made me think and truly imagine a crowd of people thinking, and showing their own selves. Congrats!

I think those two lines are the essence of your poem.. Keeping this two separate is unimaginable! Isn't living supposed to be the way of loving life?

Good work. Food for the mind 😊👍

OneAmongstMany - Our fears and uncertainties are always with us and our human strengths often come forth in the very midst of them. And if they don't always deflect a silver bullet to the heart, it may just be enough to repel kryptonite to the soul and 'dazzle the eyes for a fleeting moment' to 'breathe life' into them. Kinda gives you hope. Much enjoyed your work OAM. Namyh

Interesting take on strangers. Dead eyes to all but those they hold dear.

Loved it!!! and so true. We are like living zombies, walking on the streets, keeping to oneself, never interfering, unless by chance or circumstance, you awaken, and speak to someone...definitely on point.
