Soldier

Soldier

A Poem by OneAmongstMany

Soldier

At that time he was a battle-born soldier

Fighting back his own tears as he consoled her

Providing that eye-drying warm shoulder

Things are gonna be okay, so he told her

A true shining light to every beholder.

He was a hope igniter, a freedom fighter

Living life as if life had never been brighter

Making every dark mood turn that much lighter

Eradicating all dark thoughts that might blight her

As death’s threatening coils wound ever tighter.

He was a joy lender, a carefree happiness vendor

Assuring her he would never surrender

That he would always be there to defend her

Loving her in his own way so pure and so tender

And as death closed in he marvelled at life’s splendour.

Now he’s gone, she can never replace him

But she takes joy in the freedom death gave him

She believes nature’s beauty portrays him

In her dreams she’ll continually chase him

And in gladdening glow one day she’ll embrace him.

One Amongst Many - You've captured something romantically beautiful and humanly deep with this one and it's to be remembered. Poets! Good thing we come with our own set of jangling poetic keys which just might unlock and free a soul in jail. You did good OAM. Namyh

Hauntingly romantic writing. A rock catering to a butterfly.
