Depart, Beat On

Depart, Beat On

A Poem by OneAmongstMany

Depart, Beat On

It never unfolds how you envisage

Not really

An ideal departure leaves both parties satisfied

And not this lingering unfulfillment.

Does she feel it also?

There is no way of knowing

Such is the nature of parting ways.

You had mapped it out so perfectly

The things you’d say

The things you’d do

The way she’d laugh

How you would too

And yet the curtain falls

Before your lips had even formed the necessary sounds

There was nothing to say

There was nothing to say

What you had mapped out was preposterous

And so you depart, until the next day.

But the next day never came

Nor will it ever come

For the ship had long sailed

Its anchor tied firmly to its side

Never to grace your shores again

You watch the ripples she left in her wake

How they stir your soul into longing

Into a deep regret

Never to be stilled.

But never mind, you broken hearted

For while that ship is departed

The next one

Is only just coming into port.

Very well done I like the rhythm you used when you said "The things you'd say The things you'd do The way she'd laugh How you would too." That had to be my favorite part.

Thank you!
Been there done that my friend. Closure always seem to escape us. At the mercy of others. The pain and mystery of the unknown. Wonderfully written and you set the mood. Nice.
