The WallA Poem by Kristen R. HeylBrick by brick...
She had the built the wall a long time ago to keep out the vandalizers and trespassers who just wanted to hurt her.
Along he came and with his smile and kindness disarmed her so that she started to take down the wall for she felt safe and secure from hurt.
She thought the wall had crumbled so that he could freely have her heart but she discovered she was wrong when she cried noiselessly so he wouldn’t know while watching him sleep.
She knows that with this wall up never can things move forward yet her mind tells her to keep it there for it knows that she isn’t meant for him no matter how much she wants things to work.
They are just too different in their thinking about things that matter now and down the road if they decided to travel together for a while.
She starts to lay the bricks again ever so s l o w l y hoping that there will come a point when she is able to operate on his level and things may change between them.
She knows the end of the road is near and fights to hold back the tears that threaten to spill over and the sobs that want to wrack her body so that she has to curl up in the fetal position to relieve the pain.
Brick by brick, layer by layer, she builds up the fortress.
