The sun was setting over where we sat
The grass well dented from our bottoms
For we had sat there day after day
As summer ticked by
This was the last though
The air was turning crisp
And home was calling
But for the moment we could shut our ears
Just watch the sun sink away
I turned.
Watching her as she looked at the sky
I don't know what she goes on about
When she says her nose is too big
Or her chest to flat
She must be mad
To think such things
Nothing is wrong about her
Especially with her eyes shining so
Who knew when we would see each other again?
I looked back to the sky, and closed my eyes
And wondered
School was coming
Soon would be snow
And plans had been made
To visit places
To make meetings
To join the real world
This place was no longer ours to dream for
Not after this last sunset
I worried.
Promises of I will see you again
And BFFL
Don't seem to catch on after we go
And "I meant to write"
Means little years down the road
I don't know how long I can bear it
Don't know if I want to bear it at all
She is looking at me now
Puts her arm around me
And I feel at peace again
For the moment time can stop
And so can my worries
For the moment we are together
And for the moment
That is all I need
We still have the sunset
And
A sunset
Can last a lifetime
