Paper Airplane

Paper Airplane

A Chapter by Megan Doeden

A simple paper airplane flies through my window. It lands silently at my feel. My pulse quickens, my heart skips a beat. Picking up the airplane I go over the possibilities. Where did it come from? Who could it be? I sat there for a while, what felt like an eternity. Cradling this weightless paper in my shaking hands. As my palms sweat, and I remind myself to breathe. I can't seem to move. What could this mean? A few minutes pass I begin to unfold it. My heart jumps into my throat, and the clock is ticking so loud it almost bursts my ear drums. The paper is crisp and new. No bumps or bruises from traveling, carefully crafted just for me. But what could it be? As my eyes adjust my heart almost stops. I'm frozen with fear. Is this real?

In a single moment everything changed. A single piece of paper flew through my window and decided my fate from that moment forward. Through my window in a two story house.
