The Poet's Affliction

The Poet's Affliction

A Poem by Lloyd Frieson-Small
"

An explanatory poem of my inner struggle.

"
To form a bond between words and the soul,  often found wandering through the wastelands  of a world with no sun and no moon.

Illumination comes to the wanderer only with the  presence of thought, the birth of an idea so powerful,  that the unspoken words crumble beneath its profundity.

From untold memories of lost love, deception, and redemption,  the wanderer seeks to translate emotion into a form of art that  has no intoxicating sounds or beautiful images at first glance.

Armed with the undefined, unspoken word that could burn the blood of a nation or drive a man to insanity, the wanderer begins his quest for a cure to an affliction that is unknown and unattainable.

Tormented night and day by an inner calling best left unchecked,  the wanderer fights desperately within himself to calm the storm of self-proclaimed righteousness and zealousy, he remains a figment  of mystery to the untrained eye, and an undefined category to an untapped mind.

This reflects how I feel about writing and how Beethoven and Mozart felt about music. I write because there is something to say. To speak one's mind or go insane. Sometimes I wonder on which side I have fallen. There is great imagery here. Even if something is hard to see happening in reality, you clearly show it. And that is what separates your poetry.

Writers who must write. Can fall into old dreams and nightmares. The above lines I liked. They say writers and artist must be mad people. Trying to figure out the right and wrong of life to people who do not care. Word-men are needed. Someone must separate the truth from the s**t. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Such a tormented and soul searching crusade... he remains a figment of mystery to the untrained eye, and an undefined category to an untapped mind....I would think you were a soldier....but, then again ..aren't we all of some kind or another:)...peaceful dreams dear poet ....I thought I heard you mumbling. Intriguing and mystical write.
