I Dance With The Broken-Hearted

I Dance With The Broken-Hearted

A Poem by Lloyd Frieson-Small
"

Another personal favorite of mine. I was inspired to write this piece the night before I was scheduled to leave my hometown on a journey to expand my horizons. Enjoy.

"
In the midnight hour, when I arose from my slumber. There was a gathering just outside my window. I looked out in curiosity, and they signaled me to join them in dreaded remembrance; to bear witness to their regrets and hollow accomplishments. They all had tales to be told. One by one, the light in their eyes faded for a moment as they shared their inner-most thoughts, looking up at me from a hole in the ground.
A great feeling of sadness came over me, knowing that it was only false pride that allowed them to keep their heads high during the day. So I remained there for a time, exchanging stories of love lost and a notion of hope that has long since passed. Wondering to myself, "How could this happen?".
For it was within these very people that I once found the strength to carry on and fight back the tears that came when I took the time to reflect on my past. A single tear fell from my face, as I realized that we had fallen even further from grace and unknowingly given in to what was to be avoided at all costs.
As I prepared for my journey, I looked into the night sky and held back the question that has plagued my dreams for as long as I have lived. I took a deep breath, and continued to prepare for the journey ahead, asking myself, "How will they fare in my absence?.. When my light no longer lingers here, how will they see in the darkest of nights?.." I Dance With The Broken-Hearted....

Of course I would never critic this piece without your asking and I see that you welcome criticism. I ain't got nothing to criticize here and if I were to offer anything it would be encouragement or advisement and it would have to be down right terrible for me to that. In the words of Jamie Foxx "I don't need it" and neither do you. This is a very heart rendering, atmospheric write.
