Cold CompanyA Poem by Lloyd Frieson-SmallOne of my very first poems, written over 5 years ago. EnjoyIt never ceases to amaze me, the power of emotion. The power of a romantic, selfless, but at the same time dangerous entity, so inadequately described as love. For the longest time I was safe, not knowing the insatiable appetite that would become an imminent descent into the foggy, vacant graveyard I now refer to as my heart. Where I'm forced to confront the most diabolical of all foes; myself. Obviously bewildered and weary from the pain and emptiness of the place love once resided; I remain in this place. Growing accustomed to the weariness, but plagued by the never-ending memory of what was. Imagine my surprise, finding another who now resides in this hellish place I've come to call home... I glance for the first time at the figure shrouded in darkness, intrigued by the fading light in its center. With an uneasy but familiar sense of purpose, courage and clarity; I crawl to where the figure had fallen, and began to tend to her wounds. They were identical to mine and the darkness of my home was slowly creeping into her very being. Realizing she would come to know the pain of my world, I began to weep for her. She reached out and took my face in her hands, and for the first time in what seemed like an eternity; I glanced into the eyes of an angel. With one last glimmer of hope and benevolence, I looked to the sky and asked the creator to restore her to her former glory. In return, I would remain here, forever bound by the chains of heartbreak and despair. Waiting to be set free. The darkness seemed to be fading slowly, as her light grew. Her lips met mine for our first and final kiss, and she was gone...
