That Thing in Fairy Tales

That Thing in Fairy Tales

A Poem by Omily

I remember how I shut my eyes,

An effort to deny

How they laid on you

From that very first time.

They saw that thing

In fantasies

Fantastic fairy tales

And yet, I hail

From above

From these sugar coated dreams;

I deem myself a pragmatist

A realist

Free from this fluff,

This nonsense stuff.

It's rough to accept

This discrepancy;

This fantasy

Is as plain and pure

As practicality.

I opened my eyes today

And winced

And pinched myself awake

And shook off the sugar--

Of honest to god truth,

I took a bite:

Yes, it does exist--

That thing,

That wish,

That feeling at first sight.
