Chewing On Ice

Chewing On Ice

A Poem by Omily

I'm chewing on ice

Because I remember the vices

Of today compared with last night--

Of everyday opposed to those weightless times

When the sky says goodbye

And I, Atlas, am relieved of my sentence.

I was free-- It was perfect;

I was perfectly alone

Through the superior stupidity

Slithering down my throat

And melting away my limbs

To a torso afloat.

Without any limbs,

I have no way to carry

The weight of the world

So I'm chewing on ice;

(I pretend it suffices)

That crunch crunch crunch,

Deafening--

The sky kept in check

From being

Unfurled.
