Placebo

Placebo

A Poem by Omily

Partly for closure, mostly for longing, she swallowed the pill,

Letting a sensation of calm, of addicting euphoria, overcome her.

After the first pill, she couldn’t get enough of that gratifying power,

Causing mass consumption of the “morphine.” A failed

Experiment, a curious experiment, startling logic loving scientists,

But they let her get high on nothing at all, wondering if she knew the secret.

Obsessively, she swallowed sugar pills, closing her eyes to the truth in clear view.
