Paper Cup

Paper Cup

A Poem by Omily

Green lettering on the paper cup read "decomposible"

So I walked ceremoniously to the edge of a parking lot

Without guilt or comprehension or reason--

Intentionally without reason, and yet with all the reason in the world--

I filled my cup with the anxiety bubbling in my chest

And the self inflicted stress streaming from my mind

And the scorching loneliness boiling in my heart.

With a steady underhand throw, I tossed my cup

Into the grass where it would decay.

Suspended in the air between black top and soil,

Relief flooded my dried inner ocean

And the cup left me.

Finally, it left me.

On its grass aimed spiral, it missed

And landed with a pathetic flop

On the asphalt

Until it rolled back

Loyally

To the tips of my feet.
