To See The Sky

The sky is gray.

Gray, gray, gray.

All I wanted to see

Was the bright blue sky

The warm sun

Anything but gray

 

The weatherman said that won’t happen.

Going to be cloudy for another week.

That made me sad.

Why won’t the clouds go away?

I want the sun.

I want the sky!

 

I’m outside today.

No sky.

I look and look

I keep looking for the sky

It’s the only thing to alleviate

My despair

 

Then I see it.

A hole in the clouds

An opening to the sky!

It was over the lake.

I dove in.

Clothes and all.

 

I reach the center of the lake

I float on my back.

My arms and legs slowly sink.

My ponytail falls.

But I can see it.

I can see the sky.

 

It’s so beautiful

So blue and perfect

My heart feels lighter

My soul sings.

Soon, I’ll see the sun.

It’s starting to peep out.

 

I am happy.

Then I was pulled away.

Someone was dragging me away

No!

I need the sky!

I need the sun!

 

I fight, but they were strong

They hold me tight.

Pulling me away.

Out of the water.

Into an ambulance

Taking me away

 

Someone asked a question

What was I thinking?

I glared angrily at him

They thought I was suicidal

I am not.

I just wanted to see the sky.

Beautiful poem, I understand those feelings completely- nothing depresses me more than the winter months and when it is gray and overcast outside. I also like the message of the lengths a human will go to to seek peace. Excellent poem.
