She Is Mine But His

She Is Mine But His

A Poem by Olumegbon

I knew she had a spouse,
But his love no longer had her aroused,
So I saw that as a sign,
I could easily decipher,
Because of my level of awareness,
My consciousness obviously more experienced,
Letting him go was like suicide,
Miserably in pain but hard to execute,
The touch of my lips
Was a blast into the past,
Less time for her to reminisce,
Is the feeling a kiss she miss,
A question her mind couldn't resist,
But the touch of my hands was new,
My words were unique rhythms in tune,
She was overwhelmed by the rush,
Her soul admitting she was in love,
So she whispered in my ears softly,
Saying her soul is mine,
But her body is his

First off the last line caught me by the throat but i love how u opened saying "I knew she had a spouse..", it sparked my interest.. So unique.I like how it's coming from the past lover's point of view, I never really see anything from that side so this was very refreshing to read.

This is what classic bullshit women tell when they can not stand by their heart and deceive all parties involved. It leads to only one thing " Disaster".

This is a excellent piece I loved every line, and the last two was a great way to end it... Well done !!

I like that you choose to write about the unusual aspects of life, the gritty stuff told with dispassionate honesty & simple vivid observations. The one place I felt a little funky is this line: "becuz of my level of awareness" . . . this smacks of egotistical smugness, which spoils the intense honesty of your usually more balanced observations about the darker aspects of human nature. We are all moving thru our worlds with mixed emotions & blatant vulnerabilities. The narrator here sounds like he's on the verge of being a predator (kinda icky) rather than just a friend offering a soft place to land.

Thanks a lot for the review
Very softly saying the words of love so slowly no one noticed or squinted an eye.

You know, no one ever hears about the other man. They always hear from the one who was cheated on and the cheater. But never the one that was party to the cheating. I enjoyed this because it gives another side, another voice and another perspective to the story. Although I would never cheat and I would hope my sigoth never cheats on me, I enjoyed the different perspective in this poem, thank you for sharing the silenced man's story.

Holds a potent yearning and I really enjoyed the imagery...forbidden perhaps but the soul screams louder than flesh :)

I enjoyed the poem. Honest and true words with a real ending.
"Saying her soul is mine,
But her body is his"
Sometime what we want isn't what we need. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

A very nicely written poem about a forbidden love and almost an unknown future for them both as she loves him one way and yet she still yearns and loves another
