What Is Life's Essence?

What Is Life's Essence?

A Poem by Olumegbon
"

Will really like to know the purpose of life...

"
The long suffering and short blessings,
Is that the beauty of life?
The energetic struggle,
The minimal outcome,
Is Life's essence not senseless?
The fear of society's presence,
Battling with its inhabitant's expectations,
Struggling with life's limitations,
And the spoils of war earned with pain,
What happens to it after your demise?
Shared among comrade-In-arms that didn't bleed for it,
What's next? Just a name engraved on a stone.
What then is the beauty of life?
The lack of awareness when you die?
To create a family and leave behind?
What's the essence of life?
To leave all we learned, earned and loved behind?

thanks alot.
I first have to admit, all those things you've written are correct in what life's essence could be. And I understand that throughout the poem the theme has been about the downside to life's essence. It's cool as well that the title is ironic of the actual content, or at best misleading, one of the two options, I can't decide. That's what the poem has good for itself, me thinks.

If I were to take this poem and dissect it, since you know, reflection of ourselves kinda deal. Well, it seems to me it's a lot of negative for the sake of negative. It helps for me the reader to understand where you're coming from, and perhaps its from a place of where all this is prevalent to you, or perhaps some of the things you've written is something you've seen. Well, since I don't know that part of you, my point of view tells me it's just next bad thing, next bad thing, next bad thing. Without the gusto to go with the story, you know, the real stuff like this: "Shared among comrade-In-arms that didn't bleed for it", is this pertaining to any real service in the military forces? Because if not, it comes out sort of a whiny poem. And no offense at all, you've done wonderful to put these words together and in the succession of how the poem carries itself on to the next verse. But other than that, sorta whiny.

Armando, is that you?

I loved this little poem because it encapsulates what I've been thinking lately. You do make a valid point; for when we die and die we must, we should be able to provide an answer to this one staggering question: does anything have an ultimate value? From your poem, it seems like you answered this question by saying, "There is no ultimate meaning" in a subtle way.
