You're Still My Friend

You're Still My Friend

A Poem by Olumegbon

Time moves in the speed of light, beautiful moments vanish, sour moments linger. My pal made me say wow, a news that blew the fuse. I felt sorry because of her worry, everything seemed blurry because her baby was in a hurry. A swift mistake turned out to be a sweet piece of cake, that's why she went back for another take. My advice was chastised but now she cries. A foetus is conceived and now she's stuck on lettuce for the baby's growth. She chokes, Vomiting non-stop in the toilet bowl. Mum knows, sees the signs plus her stomach shows. I thought we were friends but why did you have to wait till the end? You need to be spanked to be frank. I thought we were close, all the conversations, did you think about those? Lucky you, I can't stay mad because I feel bad when I see you sad. I wrote your baby a short poem in a card titled, the guy that was meant to be your dad. I gave her a name because she will turn out to be a dame. I'm puzzled because you had a boo but why were you wooed by another dude. I don't mean to be rude but while you were nude in his room, why didn't you elude. Seriously, your decision was cruel. The guy responsible got what he wanted but he doesn't want to be haunted so he decides to support, so you don't report. You broke the concrete and knew all my secret but in your case why use a wig to hide something this big. I must be blunt, I'm hurt because you were all I got. Regardless of it all, I had to come out straight and I want you to remember this date, that I forgive you and promise to stay by your side even when the turbulence is far and wide.

sounds like the narrator is raising another man's baby. That takes a lot of strength to do. It's a nice flow / rhyme scheme

I like it. Very creative. You can feel the undertone of betrayal throughout it. You also played up the rhyme scheme really well, a lot of people find that hard to do at such a constant pace. So well done I'd say and thanks for sharing!

You create visions, places and faces of people. I liked the above lines a lot. Thank you for sharing the powerful poetry.

Very good Olumegbon, reads very fluently. When you read it, it sounds a bit as a rap song. Very well done. :) Rudi

I like your rhythm in this poem. I think perhaps I'd suggest stanza to bring the clearness of your poetry out. But the moral was great and it flowed fantastically.
