The Quiet

The Quiet

A Poem by Olivia Sturtevant
"

A collection of song lyrics

"

Sometimes quiet is violent

And all this color that surrounds you is wilder than your wildest dreams

Well darkness has a hunger that’s insatiable

And it’s coming for you

The shadows scream that I’m alone

Some wrap that fear around them like a blanket

I’ll never live that way

My lungs will still fill and then deflate

Sometimes quiet is violent

But it’s not coming for me

Take a look around you then look way up to the sky

No blinding light or tunnels to gates of white

And I thank god you’re alive

At long last love has arrived

But darkness has a hunger that’s insatiable

And then you’re gone

Sometimes quiet is violent

And now I just sit in silence

I agree with everyone else about re-using the lines, and I think it shows an emotion of hopelessness with "Sometimes quiet is violent." and that disbelief inside us that there is a God, and there is good. I think it also shows the feeling that everything will be torn away from us, leaving us broken and silent.

Yeah, others already said this, but I really like how you brought certain lines back more than once, sometimes slightly changing them. It helps make the stanzas go together.

I like the repetition you have in this poem it really ties it all together and creates an emotional story. The use of figurative language also keeps the reader in tune, wanting to read the rest because of it's creativity. :D

I like how you kept going back to "sometimes quiet is violent." to emphasize the emotions of the poem.

There were a lot of darker songs to take lyrics from, and I think you did a better job than I did putting them together.

I find that the repeating of the phrase "sometimes quiet is violent" does add level to the poem good work. :-)
