7 Years Old

7 Years Old

A Poem by Oliver Lee
"

Do you remember what being 7 years old was like?

"
Do you remember what being 7 years old felt like?

It feels like a light within waiting to be turned on, and shine
It feels like snug Velcro shoes
It feels like May air, fresh and naive
It feels like a hand pressed against your own, twice it's size, gripping tightly as to make sure you stay close by
It's the taste of sticky apple juice trickling down your throat
It's that one dreaded outfit Mommy made you wear
It feels like countless hours sat at the dinner table alone, unless you finished your vegetables
It's the sound of the stool sliding across the bathroom floor to the sink so you could brush your teeth
It feels like the tissues of your gums ripping apart as your first loose tooth is tied around a string and projectiled across the room
It's the gentle naive unawareness of the parental chaos around you
The screams and fights
You don't comprehend
After all, you remember, don't you?

Wow, that's all so relatable! Certainly does remind me of my days as a kid, or rather a seven-year-old as you say. Well done!
