Once I Knew A BoyA Poem by Oliver Leeso there's this boyOnce I knew a boy a boy whose lips turned up in the biggest and most beautiful of smiles, lighting up even the darkest of days His skin, bathed in sunlight, was the most ethereal sight to see, and still he didn't believe me His skin, scratched and bruised, torn and cut and scarred beyond repair, was still the most beautiful Once I knew a boy who felt like staying in this life was the worst thing that could happen to him Once I helped a boy make life more bearable, because this life without him is my unbearable Once I knew a boy whose hair fell just the right way, ever pin-straight strands of hair covering his eyes because he doesn't want to interact with anyone right now Once I knew a boy with gorgeous sunset eyes, the way the light hit them lighting them up with four different shades of one exact color, I assure you, they are not boring, your brown eyes are a work of art Once I knew a boy who was too scared to admit he wasn't okay, because bothering people wasn't his style Once I knew a boy who tried to end his life; once I knew a boy who tried to end mine Once I knew a boy who wasn't afraid to announce to the whole goddamn world that he likes other boys and is proud Although that same boy was too afraid to announce that he might be an alien in peoples clothing because he has a female body and a mans soul and if he questioned that, invalidation came with it Once I knew a boy who made fire light up every room he walked in Once I knew a boy who was stronger than any other person I've ever met Once I knew a boy who trusted me as I trusted him Once I loved a boy
