Sugarcoat The World For Me

Sugarcoat The World For Me

A Screenplay by Oliver Lee
"

A dialogue I wrote a while back

"

“And so what. Do you know what your problem is? You think everyone cares about you. You think the whole world revolves around you and your pain and your sorrows and your problems. And it doesn’t. I’m sorry, sweetheart. But tragedy happens everyday, to someone new. You’re not the first person to get hurt, and you certainly won’t be the last.”

“You out of all people, can’t say that to me. Please.”

“I don’t sugarcoat. I wish i could, but i just don’t have that kind of time.”

“Then f*****g make time.”

“Sugarcoat everything for me. Because I’m done living in the real world. I’m done waking up in this, this, place.  A place where people are sad for no reason, and people die for just being people. An awful place where nothing is really real. Where people put masks on just to leave the house and see other people just like them. I’m goddamn sick and f*****g tired of it.”

“Maybe life isn’t for everyone, sweetheart.”

“I’m not your sweetheart. Hell, you won’t sugarcoat anything for me. Don’t try and start now.”

I love this, it's a brilliant back and forth- and it's true, tragedy is in the normal circulation in this world. Especially in these last two decades. I have spent so long sugarcoating the world around me just so I'm not negative.. I was born in 2000. It seems things have only gotten worse, I have always been afraid of getting drafted in the case of war since I was a kid. The only thing I can do to stay positive yet still fight the social injustice, is to utilize a unique combination of ignorance and information, bliss and power as such.
It seems very likely that by the end of our lives, either one thing or another will happen: either we see the end of things, or we help to start a new beginning, give people a chance to live a peaceful life, and ensure that social injustice in all it's forms all over the world ceases. I believe we can accomplish peace, if we stick to fighting our own battles, defending others, and helping the disenfranchised instead of fighting another politician's war.
