Self destruction destroys Sleeping Beauty

"

Briar Rose's life is spiraling out of control

She knows this yet she is doing nothing to stop it.

Another crash from a four day coke binge. Another morning waking up in a stranger's bed.

Another day empty.

This life of staying up late, shoving one too many pills down her throat and too little food,

snorting this, shooting that, will kill her.

She knows it, yet does she stop? No. Does she care? Not really. And she knows she should.

If you ask her, she will tell you she honestly doesn't know how this started.

She doesn't fit your typical wild child traits.

No daddy issues. No instability in her childhood.

Yet she still finds herself staying out late, hanging around drunk and tweaked out college kids.

Seeing disappointment in her parents' faces when she crawls through the door in the morning,

(sometimes after being gone for days) reeking of sweat, smoke, and booze.

And what keeps her going this way? The entire life of being around people she doesn't like, suffering from the crash as her “nourishment” leaves her system, and the constant embarrassing and drunken sexual encounters.

Was it a lack of attention? Lack of praise? A simple flaw in character?

She doesn't know. She just knows she isn't ready for it to end. The life of self destruction is no way to live but it was the only way she knows.

But her parents had reached their limit. They locked her away, believing they could shield her from the outside world.

Little did they know, she brought the outside world to her.

While Mom and dad were tucked away sleep, Briar was on the roof outside her window

Sleazy guys, good times, and shameful acts on the roof were her life during her time locked away.

Her dignity gave in night after night. Gave touches and kisses for simple fixes. She didn't care, she was too broken. Rotten on the inside. There was never a chance at reclaiming what she once was.

But she still faked a smile, her parents none the wiser. They didn't know she was crumbling before their eyes, at her very own doing.

She became numb and cold. Breathing but not alive. And one night, after staring at herself in the mirror, she completely shattered.

A single tear ran down her face. She whispered to herself, “I can fix this.”

She climbed out her window, as she did many times before. Scaling down until she hit the soft grass in the yard. She walked aimlessly, oblivious to chilling winds, rain and odd stares.

I can erase this. Fix it.” she whispered to herself.

She kept going until she reached a cliff overlooking the ocean, something she once thought was beatiful. She stood on the edge and held her arms out. Tilting her head back and letting the water drops hit her face but not really feeling them.

I'm going to be ok.”

Briar Rose turned around

and let herself fall.
