Temperence SpeechA Story by OkieWonKenokiewritten for school awhile back ago too....
The sale of alcohol should be banned in every state. It's a menace to
society in that it doesn't just affect the person who is under its influence. It affects everyone around them. When the American Revolution approached, the use of alcohol increased dramatically. The risk to others lives is too great to allow such a thing to be free for sale. How many more have to die from consumption of alcohol? How many more should be harmed by the abuse of this substance? By the beginning of this age, guess how much alcohol the average American was drinking? Can't figure it out? An average American was drinking 7 gallons of pure alcohol! Husbands stupidly spend family savings on alcohol, leaving their family in poor health and without proper meals. For the husbands' stupidities, it would all lead to family arguments and possibly even divorce. Everyone knows of someone whom the drink leaves in poor shape. Many American men suffered from Sclerosis, which is caused by alcohol and lung cancer from smoking cigarettes. From so many fathers dying children had to fight for their lives and eventually it all led to families' financial problems. So many laborers would get drunk so they would miss a substantial amount of work or when they did come into work they couldn't perform their job correctly. The moods and the fighting spirit aroused. Surely there's a better thing for this society? The grain used to create alcohol would be better served feeding soldiers. If we pass this law we protect our citizenry from corruption and abuse. If we refuse then we doom ourselves to be forever on the watch for those who think nothing of those around them. © 2010 OkieWonKenokieAuthor's Note
