Just a slight memoir for my grandpa....

Just a slight memoir for my grandpa....

A Poem by OkieWonKenokie
"

written for my grandpa who was much of a fatherly figure for me.He was pretty awesome and quite funny.

"

You may be gone from this world,

But you’re alive in our minds.

We never thought this would happen.

Things happen for many reasons.

Maybe one day we’ll meet up again.

I hope you were proud of me.

You’re with me wherever I go,

Even if it seems like you’re not.

I miss you,

But I’d never ask for you to be back.

You were in too much pain

It’d just be selfish to want that.

My last words to you were “I love you”.

You helped me feel better

Just as I liked being around you.

You were so cheerful.

I would love to see you again,

Even if it was for only a couple minutes.

I wish you’d be here to see me grow up,

But really you’re watching over me.

You’re who I think of when things get rough,

No matter what’s wrong I know you’re right by my side.

I’m a beautiful young girl,

Even as you’d tell me

You were hurting every day,

That we all felt bad.

You’d accidentally hurt yourself,

So we had to help bandage you up and play doctor.

We love you

And miss you.

I’m happy you’re out of pain,

Even though we won’t see each other again for awhile.

Remember when I was younger?

You were so awesome!

I can’t even begin to explain it.

We had much fun together.

You were such a cool grandpa.

We had our times of disagreement,

But you still loved me no matter what.

Just as I still loved you.

My mind is frozen in time,

But my heart has kept you there.

My thoughts think what I did wrong.

You weren’t home when it happened.

Now you’re not here for me

To have some company or have comedy in my life.

Although, you really shouldn’t have cussed like a sailor,

But we all loved ya.

You always told me to succeed.

Now that you’re gone,

I’m going to.

No matter what it takes.

I’m going to make you and everyone proud,

Even after all my mistakes I’ve done.

This is just one of those poems that needed to be a written, a cathartic homage to a man that you love dearly. It’s a means of expressing your sorrow, your affection, your remembrances of the past, and your promises for the future. You succeeded in doing all of these things.

I hope the memories of your grandfather bring you comfort during your time of sorrow. I just know there will be times in your life when a memory will all of a sudden flash through your mind, and something that your grandfather said or did will cause a burst of laughter. Every time you laugh, remember his laugh. He would always want you to be happy.

First thing I'd like to say is, you'd said "My last words to you were “I love you”". If that is for real, you are really blessed, trust me :)

The poem slowly unrolls from mourning your dear grandpa, explaining the life you had with him and then promising that you'll make him proud - I don't know if you did that intentionally, but it's the best way in which a tribute/memoir can be done.

I'm starting to like your poems and think that you're worth something other than doing Ph.D :P :P :)

Keep writing.

This is so powerful. I love the third stanza:
"I miss you,
But I’d never ask for you to be back.
You were in too much pain
It’d just be selfish to want that."

He'd be proud.

He would be very proud of you, This is an amazing poem. This is such a beautiful thing anyone could ever do for someone who past. Just remember to let his memory live along side you always. And you'll never forget him.
