Promises,Lies, and Happiness

Promises,Lies, and Happiness

A Poem by OkieWonKenokie
"

written for someone on DA thats going through some hard times......

"
Even though I have all this pain,
I'm now finally happily glad.
I'd love to run in the rain
Since doing it without you would be rad.

You don't mean anything to me
Since all you wanted to do was make me torn.
From now on, I jump with glee
So you're the one that is worn.

You promised to just love,
But did it turn to hate?
You made me think of a dove
That was used as bait.

You thought you could just use me,
But I'll heal from the scars.
From now on, I'll be free
So I will be bigger than Mars.

I'll never promise a thing.
But you can do whatever you want.
Right now I'll just sing
So you can just become a haunt.

I'm now like a butterfly,
Or even a bird.
Mom and Dad always told me "My, my, my"
But at least I'm not heard.

Promises always turn to lies
Just like how you are,
But no one could hear your faint cries,
Because you are quite far.

I loved you quite much,
But we have grown apart.
I may need a crutch
For I have been hit with a dart.

My parents promised me many things,
But once you came it was gone.
You even gave me a ring,
But I don't care I'm done.

I'll make sure fly from you
For I have been set free.
You make try to hurt me as you do,
But I can now see.

Promise me one thing,
That you'll leave me alone,
So you can have your ring
And fetch it like a bone.

I could tell right from the beginning that this is about a person getting over a guy she was with.
Be careful, as the first 2 stanzas are connected with two very contradictory statements, yet there is no lead-in into the change - it's very sudden and it stands out to me.
Apart from that, the line "So I will be bigger than Mars" is very corny in my opinion :) You could do better with the rhyme there.
Similar to this is stanza,
"I'm now like a butterfly,
Or even a bird.
Mom and Dad always told me "My, my, my"
But at least I'm not heard." - the 3rd and 4th lines come across as forced rhymes. Why exactly is she "at least not heard"?

Good effort.
