Yellow Cat CassetteA Poem by CzarinaA life buried in a cassette of a casket.I remember you never liked to talk much While you were here with me Only of some fifteen years Making music as a hobby It has now been five months Since the day you disappeared You left your body behind In a dark homespun basement of sorts Broken piano keys, dripping red scissors On a dusty desk, a cassette with A yellow cat drawn on it In my hands I hold all that you left of your soul A hundred by sixty-four plastic cassette A life pressed into thin tape I am off to find the reason why you died Suddenly your voice echoes from the Walkman What am I looking for? You would love me as an adult But that reality is stale That was what you always said It echoes back inside my head Once upon a time in this world Lived a somebody named you I laughed at your melancholy Can you tell me what all this nonsense means? Piano keys banging, singing of train tracks In two feet of silence, I think I could Hear your voice crying In these songs of yours hides a lullaby cut short That you sang before you closed your eyes Should I play it backwards? The yellow cat’s smile smeared from my fingerprints Is it pathetic that I'm taking so long? What were you looking for? In my hands I hold songs of a soul left unheard His audience, a microphone and his thoughts His curtains, his scissors I am off to find the reason why you died Tangled somewhere in spools of tape What were you looking for?
