I'm A Terrible PersonA Poem by CzarinaThe innocent children can be just as terrible.I weaved a crown of weeds grown in the asphalt When I heard a girl scream, being dragged by her sleeves They laughed as They laughed as they almost exposed her bare It was over before I even had the chance to breathe in That boy playing with his shadow did not notice the crowd The first rock made a hole in the back of his head Do not touch Do not touch, or else you will no longer be loved Instead I tore flowers apart, grinding the pulp Instead I Instead I Those friends of mine are not perfect, I will admit They make jokes out of children crying Of course they Of course they like me yet I don't know why I like to see the good in them no matter what “That child never talks, she is nicer than the rest” “That cute child would never hurt anyone else” The victims and the bullies all agree on one thing That there is nothing wrong with me My parents always taught me to stay out of the way That I am better off not helping anybody So instead So instead, while everyone wrote insults in chalk I drew fairies, pretending I never saw I learned that jump ropes have many uses Right for the neck or slicing lacerations A stuffed me A stuffed rabbit lay beheaded in the trash Who knew its innocence was so meaningless? My friends were talking with their backs turned to me So I assumed they were telling jokes I would find boring But they already forgot I was still in the room They were only laughing at me “That child is the only normal one” “That child never did anything bad” And that child grew up thinking that they were kind The nicest person of them all Not doing anything, not saying anything There is nothing admirable to love at all Because the one who never did anything Nothing at all Is the worst person out there© 2016 Czarina |
