I sat on the stairs as the University of Tokyo burned in front of me. Then my phone went off and I got up.
"Hello?" I answered walking away.
"Hey babe, how are you?"
"Same old. I thought I told you not to call." This was Achlys. She had this annoying habit of calling me babe. We weren't like that. We just hung out when neither of us were dating.
"Why can't you be glad I called?"
"I'm just not."
"Whatever. So I heard you were in Japan."
"Thought it'd be fun."
"I'm guessing it was. They say over 100 students died in the fire."
I hissed my teeth. "Only 100? Damn, I'm losing my touch. Where are you now?"
"I'm in New York."
"Anything interesting?"
"Two new monsters showed up."
"Great, I've been looking for a new one." I looked down at my ring. It was silver with two purple gems in it.
"Ready to leave?" Kritanta was one of two servants I had. The other was Brion. They currently resided in my ring, but I could call them out at any time.
"Yeah." I went back to Achyls. "Get my house ready. I'll be there in an hour."
"OK but be careful when you get here. America has changed in the last year."
"Since when have I cared? I've hunted humans there before."
I summoned purple fire and drew a circle on the ground. "Bye." I hung up as the flames engulfed me and I disappeared.
