I ran purple in the shampoo
Hair, Bruised, I ran It was blue this time, The overdue reinvention of my mask And will be fortified soon for some other, Faceless thing Rock bands do it better Disguising distress with death to defy The conditioned, combed locks of Common people I ran To be common all at once and all together Human I ran the colours of discomfort In black and blue I knew the shades would match some lies That smiles sell on street corners I knew the ink would fade, When it smudged and said, "I'm inside of you" I ran From all of the colours that black and white couldn't see To see If newspaper paint was all it cracked up to be
