Hairdye Decay

Hairdye Decay

A Poem by Ohhhwillow

I ran purple in the shampoo
Hair,
Bruised,
I ran

It was blue this time,
The overdue reinvention of my mask
And will be fortified soon for some other,
Faceless thing

Rock bands do it better
Disguising distress with death to defy
The conditioned, combed locks of
Common people

I ran
To be common all at once and all together
Human
I ran the colours of discomfort
In black and blue

I knew the shades would match some lies
That smiles sell on street corners
I knew the ink would fade,
When it smudged and said,
"I'm inside of you"

I ran
From all of the colours that black and white couldn't see
To see
If newspaper paint was all it cracked up to be

Ohhhwillow
This insecurities of how we wish to appear; whether clear or something else, there is a necessary choice in the portrayal of ourselves that leaves us with some questions. Am I portraying myself? Or something which I would like to be? Is this an intentional 'f u' to what we think is 'ordinary'? WHO THE F KNOWS

Our, or at least my, insecurities most definitely tend to create mask. And writing about them has abolished them all.

Feels a bit disconnected for me.
Love this everyday theme as exploration.
The feeling of running is well-utilised imo.

Thanks for sharing.
