Care

Care

A Poem by Chloe

I do not care.

I have no need to care.

For if I were, it would mean losing

the very essence of my moral dignity.

To sacrifice, to savor.

Lie in the bed you’ve made.

These dreams play tricks upon

my soul and file away at the walls around.

I will not care.

It doesn’t matter.

My needs will go untouched

and uncared for just as I will it.

I will lie with lies, my head on the pillow

of injustice to all crimes committed.

I will reap the benefits of a false emotion.

And ignore the caring word,

for what would they know?

No, it never mattered.

Past or present, I will not allow it to change.

History repeats itself too often

and the scene is getting redundant.

Prevent repetition, stop before it starts.

Play the game, but never hope to win.

A stepping stone.

You all have found what it is

that makes you happy.

Benefits are what we were composed of,

a benefit to the life they all have now.

And I’ll play the voyeur to their ecstasy

I think many women have resigned themselves to this situation unfortunately. Daily pressures, a few bad men and the heart can go cold. Can't see how to improve it, but lines "A stepping stone.
You all have found what it is
that makes you happy." put a bump in the road for me.

Sorry--I don't review romance/relationships/love very well. I'm too much of a loner.

Sometime good to become a observer of love. Better to have patience and allow the emotion to come without work and correctly. When you rush anything. May miss some important things.

I like the ending. Hard to escape the emotion of love. Thank you for the outstanding poem.

playing the voyeur to their ecstasy...wonderful way of putting the act of contrition.
this is cleverly written and speaks volumes all by itself. i love the skillful way you
interpret emotion and put an emphasis on the process of denial to alleviate your pain. great write.

I really enjoyed this. You must not realize how powerful this is, and how it must speak to so many women out there. I know it spoke to me. Very deep, lovely, and true. -S...

A nice write! You created this wonderful sense of character by writing this, and I could really hear the voice of this person coming through. My favorite line is 'Play the game, but never hope to win.' A lot of people do that; they go through the motions, but they know they'll never win. Well done.

Moving as ever, Chloe. The last line, in particular, resonates with me in a special way that I believe you can appreciate (especially considering that you wrote it =p).
