What Lies Within?

What Lies Within?

A Poem by E.M.Oglesbee

What lies within a person?

Beneath flesh and bone

Emotion, personality, or soul?

What lies within is hard to guess,

For the outside is not but a mask

Shielding one’s true self.

You must strip away the mask,

And look deep into a person.

Past the polluted emotions,

That were used to keep the façade.

But be wary if you look.

For what you find in their heart of hearts,

May not be what you were looking for.
