Our Endeavors

Our Endeavors

A Poem by Joyce M.Akinyi

This was you
poor young and obscure
you walked about my life,
like a bag of stones being dragged wherever I went

everything you had was stripped away ,
all you had left  was your faintly beating heart
I heard you say you'll come back
I heard you say that which was lost will be regained
and indeed it was my endless tormenting words
that kept you here ten thousand years.

the  change was unnoticed, was slow but profound
you felt it,
you felt the joy surge through you
I felt the fear pierce every fiber of my being

and once again you resurrect with all power and poise
finally we meet eye to eye
and put our differences aside

nevertheless, you had all the love to give
I had the shame to overcome
and you forgave my wretched soul

                                                                  -Joyce Akinyi .O.
