It's complicated

It's complicated

A Poem by Odette Ntambara

I loved you but you didn’t receive my gift

our love story has been punctuated only by two major points

the commas and full stops  took away the essence of our relationship

the quotation marks didn’t do us any justice in the trust section of our love

the jargon you used on me got lost in translation so many times

your invisible laughter pierced in the shadows and just passed me by

is this what they call poetic justice? Losing my mind in the thoughts of you?

are you just looking to cause a seismic shock wave by questioning this love?

am I being naive to not question it myself?

I predict a future with you and they call me unrealistic,

some even say it’s a predictable prediction

maybe I am predictable is that such a bad thing after all?

playing in the rain my spirits remain damped as your silence deafens me

you are virtually alive but lifeless in your presence

there is an air of caution in your tone or

could it simply be that you are guilt-ridden of a little too much hyperbole throughout our years?

as the hourglass timely loses sand my hopes are quickly being dashed

we are on flight path to heartbreak, as we are both trying to win between one plane leaving and another coming

I rub my forehead contemplatively, but am going nowhere slowly

Does this story have a happy ending as is in the fairy-tales? Or are we just going to end with a pathetic sad story that is our reality?
