So Different

It's all so different,

Everything we ever did,

Nothing compares to you,

We've been friends since we were kids.

You had an incredible impact on my soul,

My personality has been shaken and shocked,

I'll let you in on the secret of my change,

I'll open those doors that've been locked.

 

You were always my companion,

Often standing at my side,

I've tried to find a replacement,

But it's to myself I've lied.

The lights seem dimmer,

The inner glow dying,

They seem to have lost their lust,

Or maybe my mind's just lying.

 

But why is it all so different?

Is it you, or is it all me?

Your absence has triggered something,

And now I'm not anything I want to be.

I stay away from ancient tasks,

Usually just lie in bed,

Like i said, things are different now...

Now that you're dead...

It is a great gift in life when one can impact us and open our inner spark to see more of the world around us. Even though those people may be long gone from the path that we traverse, their gift remains. It continues to allow us to see through their eyes as we keep inside the wisdom's that they shared in the time that they walked side by side. While we may miss them and walk memory lane. Everyone dies in your poems

As I was reading this...I wondered if you weren't speaking of a pet. Not sure so much as to what specificaly inclined me to that...maybe it was the last stanza.. It just soooo feels like I did when I had to put my 13 yr old dog to sleep. You had me revisit those same feelings of loss and saddened heart. Lost meanings of why should I even get out of bed..she isn't there to greet me as I greet her good morning. I haven't sang that song I used to sing to her every morning. I sang it to her while she went to sleep that final time...This was an extremely good piece of work...yes :)

Wow, poetry isn't usually very expressive to my mind, but this poem made me rethink dismissing them all. Its so sad and it has its own flow. I really identified with it, it was so easy to hear the loss and emptiness in this poem. Your a remarkable writer.
