A Story by Maddie
"

I am a no-lifer.

"

I could feel the bright glow reflecting off of me. I didn’t have eyes like they did. Eyes. How they endlessly stared at me.

I have seen the expressions on faces that I have projected into their minds that caused them. Sometimes it was great amounts of laughter, joy, and smiles. I have seen the sad, strangled, and gut wrenched amounts of horror appear on them. Tears, even. Tears falling from the eyes that endlessly stared at me for hours.

And sometimes, they were expressionless. Silent. Never any emotions. All I saw was the reflection of the images from my soft glow appear on their eyes.

Sometimes I wouldn’t be producing that glow, that they stared at, or caused them great emotions, I would do nothing. They would touch me sometimes, but I felt nothing. Nothingness. I always do. I wondered why when everyone else is laughing, it is never I. Why when everyone else is crying tears from their staring eyes, I am not. And it is because I am nonexistent. I cannot exist.

But just sometimes I can relate. When they stare expressionlessly at me with no smiles or tears. Because that is who I am. That. Nothing.

This was a sad, but well written story. Technology can be relatable in bad ways as well as good. You can sometimes stare at a screen and feel like less than a person. But the one thing you must always remember. You are not nothing. You are something. The fact that you can contemplate your existence means you are something.
