Never Forgotten

Never Forgotten

A Story by Maddie
"

I got inspired the other day when I was babysitting for my parents friends daughter. Enjoy!

"
I stared at the animals, only to receive blank emotions in response. How did she see an individual personality for each one? How does she treat each one like their children of her own? I stared into their artificial, round, and plastic eyes, in all shapes and colors, even buttons. I could not see the lifelike uniqueness within them. Just another stuffed animal propped up against her bed.

I sighed and wondered how different and carefree childhood was. I remembered the creative magic I used to see through more than just stuffed animals, but with everyday things. The once bright curiosity that was woven within my childish heart no longer questioned the small and ironic quirks that popped up within life, but simply ignored them.

I thought of how the worst a problem could get during this magical age was not getting the last red Popsicle at some birthday party. The worst a fight could get with your friends was when they wouldn't share their new Barbie doll with you. And love. Love was that peculiar word that showed up in the fairy tales that your parents would read to you at night. Love was simply either a kiss, a glass slipper, a beast, or a frog away. I took that all for granted.

The most work you had to do was matching colors with numbers, or picking up your Legos. If only it were still like that.

So, in all reality, I looked harder at the animals and could have sworn I saw one wink at me, and saw a spark in it's plastic eye. A real eye. A person. The magic of childhood is never lost forever, it's only forgotten. And it's a real b***h to find sometimes.

This was a very good read. It was entertaining and well written. I really got the sense of someone grown up looking back at how simple life was when they were younger.

One thing did stick out for me and I wanted to mention it.

"And it's a real b***h to find sometimes."

I chuckled at this line in a good way. It was a perfect way to sum up the story and add a sense of maturity as well as being mildly humorous all at once.
