The Better Me

The Better Me

A Poem by Mary E. Green
"

Another sleepless night, another head full of words

"
Trying to think of one time you made me feel
Like a better person
One time that I have liked what I have become
Since being with you
My mind is thinking back
Trying to piece together at least once
When I have not had regrets about being with you
I gave in multiple times with different things
Only because you were persistent
I was naively taken by the idea
That someone wanted me for all time
How do I go back
How do I find the better me
If I feel that she was before you?

An interesting premise. How DOES one go back to the person they used to be before a relationship changed them? I, too, have often wondered "What if?" But alas, we cannot go backwards, only forwards. So, i guess the only option is to start making changes towards become like that previous self. Whatever it takes to regain your true identity. I doubt it is an easy path to follow, but i do not doubt that it is worth it.
