Prologue

A Chapter by Oceandemon

Wicked and tainted roars of banshees clawed at my confined walls. This music to their ears only screeched in mine. Slamming my papers onto the ground, I pushed my fingers through the long waves of shadowy mass which was my hair in the dark. The papers scattered around me like feathers, floating and falling where gravity would take them. The slowness of time continuing through the rushing madness.

Staring at the ceiling with straining eyes, I howled in my mind as tears danced down my face. The waterfall of salt-consumed crystals were pointless to move away, for only more would continue to fall. Instead, I embraced their close company.

The roars grew louder, but remained nonexistent to the world outside my cage. It was a people in disguise. "Why is it like this? Why can't they just be happy?" My chest grew tighter and tighter, as all I could do was blame myself for the misfortune. "Why can't they just talk?" I trembled.

"Please Lord, grant me sympathy," I uttered as tears increased in their flow, "please, while my scars are healing, I want to be like everyone else, even if just for a little bit longer." I did my best to refrain from grasping at the twin glimmer from the corner of my eye.

Breathing deep to keep in control, "let their antics not bring you unhappiness, but thrive within your light," I whispered to myself. My sobs continued until the evening took hold of me, fading into its embrace...
