Life Ain’t That Hard

Life Ain’t That Hard

A Poem by Ocean Doubtfire

Life ain’t that bad man, you’re just bad at it;

You didn’t have to drink like he did and smoke to look cool,

You didn’t have to get qualified in petty crime instead of carpentry

And you didn’t have to keep doing it after you realised.

Life ain’t that rough man, you’re just rough with it;

You didn’t have to steal your best friend’s girl,

You didn’t have to scream at her when silence would have hurt as much,

You didn’t have to break instead of mending.

Life ain’t that dark man, you’re just blind to it;

You only see the predatory elements

Because you dismiss kindness as pathetic

And disbelieve that wisdom can cohere with peace.

Life ain’t that heartless, you just lack the heart

To risk baring your desires;

Placing them at the mercy of alien judgement,

Wishing fate was on your side.

Life ain’t that fair man, it’s a fairground ride;

Overpriced, unsafe, and run by thieving gypsies.

I wish it was a limousine but it’s not

And guess what?

Life ain’t that good man, but I’m good with it.

We all come out screaming, but here we are for the ride.

All will be decided by how we choose to react

And as for me, I plan to fear nothing by the time I die.

Life ain’t that hard man, but I’m hard at it;

Trying to learn what I can, while I can, and live simply.

It gets easier, life, if you don’t mind admitting

You could be different. Love it and it will forgive you.
