Bargain with the Deep Constrictor

Bargain with the Deep Constrictor

A Poem by Ocean Doubtfire

Let's make a bet that if I twist

Myself into a knot so tight

That to undo it would take

Herculean might;

That you will come and stroke the rope

And soften it to silk that slides

Across itself with ease

And stills the bitter bite

Of harsher chains that drag me down

Into a deep black sea of ink,

Where demons sleep and monsters swim

Beyond the chasm's brink;

And you will raise me up beyond

The golden sea of clouds which glow,

And know that we know nothing more

Of the deep dark sea down below.
