The Simple Things

The Simple Things

A Poem by panheadpigments
"

These are the simple things in life.

"

Ah, the simple things. These things are like watching your dad grill hamburgers and hot dogs outside. Like throwing a stick and your dog bringing it back to you. Or whining over a toy that you want, fighting with your parents, but then kissing them goodnight that evening with all the love in the world.

These things are like hot summer days with pool time, and drinking lemondade outside with friends. Like going mini-golfing with your older cousins and getting ice cream after. Like cold winter nights watching classic holiday movies by the fire with big mugs of hot chocolate. Like opening Christmas presents on that special morning.

These things are like fighting with your sibling but then playing tag the next day. Like reading pop-out books and Dr. Suess. Like snuggling with a warm blanket during a thunderstorm. Like running around the zoo, laughing and looking at all the animals. Like eating a plate of chocolate chip cookies with a big glass of milk. Or like picking daisies in a big feild of flowers.

Like picking out the perfect costume for Halloween. Like picking out the perefct pumking to carve. Like pinching your parents on St. Patricks Day for not wearing green. Like having easter egg hunts in your yard, rushing to collect all the eggs. Like giving your kindergarten sweetheart candy and a card on Valentines Day. Like giving your mom a flower on Mother's Day and your dad a big kiss on Father's Day.

Like blowing out candles on your birthday. Watching cartoons on a Saturday morning. Like getting an A+ on a spelling test. Like living life to the fullest. Like having a limitless imagination. Like loving your family and friends.

Ah, these are the simple things.

Wow, I didn't realize how old we grew until I read this. When I was reading through every line, absorbing it, I felt all the memories rush into my mind, my heart just softening and beating to each memory. The sadness escaped me when I realized I would never get these back again, but it was fun having them. A beautifully written and composed write. Time goes by fast doesn't it? :)

We just have to keep on remembering these when times get rough, if only we could the drama would immediately lessen from our lives.
