Warmth

Warmth

A Poem by L. Catherine

For years I had been trapped

In the eternal winter which surrounds me,

Shielding and concealing me

From all that could possibly break

               The everlasting, frigid night.

But after those years

Of torment, solitude, and sadness

An inner warmth has finally been ignited;

Forever thawing my frostbitten hands,

Burning away the ice in my veins,

And kindling my frozen heart.

Now I truly know

What it means to have your heart

In someone else's hands.

And though it is young and new,

Still blooming into a beautiful flower

Of compassion, trust, equality, honesty, and love

Amid-st the cold wasteland around us,

It is dearest to me than all else

Because you have saved me from being frozen.
