Singer's AnthemA Poem by L. CatherineOnce upon a time, when there was happiness in the world, there was music.
Oh no, not the music of today. Nowadays, you can't go a full minute without hearing some talentless fool singing about drugs, sex, alcohol, or getting high.
Nowadays, It's impossible to listen to songs since so many of them have grotesque words, phrases, and messages or are performed by those who only yell their words to a crowd.
But there used to be a time when all of this was just a gangster's fantasy.
I remember when I was a little girl, I used to sing along with every song played through the radio, even though I had no idea what I could have been singing.
I used to sing with joy and laughter in my heart. I knew the lyrics to each song I heard, never understanding what they meant. But when I asked, "Daddy, what are they singing about?" He would smile at me and always reply, "Love."
Love, such a simple, precious, beautiful thing. So why can't kindhearted, talented people sing about love, joy, happiness, laughter, all of the things that make life worth living?
Am I the only one that sings now to prove that there are more songs in the world than just the ones which seem like nightmares personified as words?
Once upon a time, when there was happiness in the world, there was music.
And soon, with the world's help, that music will return. © 2012 L. Catherine |
