How Old Are You Today?

How Old Are You Today?

A Poem by Sue Low
"

A birthday poem

"
Happy Birthday, today is your day
Are you still glad you decided to stay?
Do you feel any older than before?
No. No, no, no, I still feel like I'm four
Today I turned twenty-eight
But, stop, please wait I still feel eight
My inner child she is fighting strong
Even though I've gotten things all wrong
Why can't the clock stop and time stand still?
Pretty soon I'll be over the hill
But when I am ninety-nine
Will I still feel like I am nine?
Well, knocking on death's door
I must really not be a child anymore

Supposedly, the inner child persists. The outer body, not so much.
