We Don't Even Think

We Don't Even Think

A Poem by Obbligato
"

Hidden form vision is the under lying fact that all though its is no longer acepted it still exists. Racism

"

We don’t even think

Casting the reality into the back burner of our minds

Becoming oblivious

But we know all the facts

We just ignore them

Knowing reality

Throwing its rotten truth into the back of our subconscious

And cramming it in with other personal issues

But when the heat is turned up

And dire situations begin to rely on

Instinct

Our actions begin to stink

As the rotten truth is brought forward

We don’t even think

The true depth of someone’s depiction

Being formed by your pigment

Followed by decisions

Leading to actions

All based on hatred

That stems from irrational soil

So when that flower blooms

Its prejudice is rooted in colour

Only seeing visual

Petals

But different coloured flowers

Can all come from the same Garden

Draw light from the same Sun

And drink the same Rain

So in what way are we different?

Cultures and values are inherited

Via experience

Via knowledge

Not via genes and chromosomes

Which makes up your being

But not your BEING

We can all live in one garden

We don’t even think

The falsified image of others being so great

That eradication of generations

Is actually an option

How?

When did someone decide

That race took pride

And was a good enough reason to take lives

We don’t even think

But look at what racism has given us

The trade of man

Which built the foundations of what the world is today

So if those foundations are based on evil

Does that make this world evil?

To destroy those foundations

Would demolish what we have as a society

And put something else in its place

But what exactly

What could it be like today?

We don’t even think

We need to think

being honest: 'real' poets don't just spill out onto the page, like casting the runes to see what comes up...take this down to twenty lines, let your muse put some music in the words...let the poem tell you how to write it...poetry does not pop out of us ready-made...

'performance poetry' is like rap, it rides more the personality of its deliverance, and is very different from the written word, where you are not riding the energy of the crowd, but are more dependent on other skills...ed

This reads as a spoken word peice and was obvioulsy written to be performed and I think the power of it is ineivatably diminished when imprisoned on the page. It poses some interesting points, racism is indeed embedded in society despite many attempts and some limites success at removing it. Cna it be removed altogether? I somwhat doubt it for man and society will always need something to hold up as different. Brilliant piece.

As much as we try to root it out it still exists.... mostly because of the social stigma's we attach to such skin colors. I myself have been guilty of the influence against my own race--something I am trying hard to root out and replace with open compassion and deep reasoning. You are very candid in your delivery of the world's major fault--racism. But it is truly when individuals sit back and think about the exact points you brought out that racism is pulled from the roots of hearts. I absolutely drank every line of this divine and honest poem. Thank you.

I think this is an intelligent write..racism is based on fear..which breeds a host of negativity..

You raise you points and give eloquent, concise arguments ..this is a relevant, current and clever piece of writing..

Thank you for this work. It is interesting to note that there are those that think racism doesn't exist, but oh, yes it does. Wonderfully eloquent poem of awareness.

your poem is intelligent~ perfect balance of fact and emotion~
this world's reality is made up by a few with the most twisted charisma and the biggest bank accounts~ what a shame how humankind has spoiled its origins of spirit by greed and shameless destruction~
I have always refused to be defined by my gender and how much melanin I have~ and refuse to define others so~
when I ask "who are you" I want to know what my senses can't perceive~ when you know someone in that way~ well~ that is what makes life and friendship meaningful in re. to existence~
