![]() Being BlackA Poem by Ntandoyenkosi Ngcobo
Being black is not a curse, but a blessing,
Being black is not a shame, but a gift, a gift from God. You see, I might be black, but I am a human being, Count your words for I might end up leading. Well for now you might be disagreeing, But these are words I am guaranteeing. I might be black but I have rights, I am more than wise, And still on the rise, soon I'll be reaching the skies. I might be black, but I know right from wrong, And got instincts too strong. I might be black, but I am smart, For now you might be taking me apart, But soon enough I'll capture people's hearts, with my art, And I'll be raising the charts. Being black does not make you a rejection, although that is what is being given as an injection. And as for my direction in subjected selection, I need not your corrections and claims of your protection. You make me look at my reflection and see such imperfection, But soon enough I'll be in resurrection. Being black has no limitations, for I am no imitation. Very soon you might receive invitations to my aspirations. Yes I am black, yet special and essential, Yes I am black and chosen not for demotion, but with promotion, and no emotion. I am black, but won't allow to be set out and picked over, without fully being paid for, I am black, but break all the chains that make us prisoners on our own land. When forced to dig gold and platinum with long faces, Now we've got gold and platinum on our fingers and as braces, You see, being black is not a curse but a blessing, Yes I am black, yet destined for greater things, For I hold the keys to my success. © 2015 Ntandoyenkosi Ngcobo |
