Goodbye

i recently went through a break up after a long term relationship. it hurt but it was the right thing to happen for the both of us.

Please forgive me darling

For what I’m about to do

It wasn’t meant to be this way

It was always me and you

 

Recently somethings changed

I can feel it in the air

Distance comes between us

But do you even care?

 

I always thought you brought out

The best version of myself

But lately I have seen

You are becoming bad for my health

 

I hate who I have become

The girl you made me be

I think its time to cut off ties

It’s time to finally be free

 

So, if this hurts I’m sorry

There’s nothing more to say

For a while you were my everything

But now I must go my own way

i am not confident about this. i wrote it as a way to deal with the break up immediately after. so if it doesn't make sense I'm sorry.

The poem is clearly expressed from a place of genuine life experience and intimate part of your life.
Poetically it flows smoothly with rhythm and rhyme.
However, on the core subject matter, which is the break-up of a presumably long term relationship, based on the poetic content and context, I feel as though it is bias and not objective enough to elaborate more on the goodness of the relationship in good times and the good parts both have played before the unfortunate and subsequent breakup; for, after all, it is the good qualities of two souls that brought them together in the first place. Thus this one sided account seems more like a victim report. There are 2 sides to a coin or a story.
However, freedom of expression is what poetry is about. But love and truth must go hand in hand, even painful truth.
