Tell Me

Tell Me

A Poem by November Gold
"

Who am I, and who are you, and we do we intersect?

"

Tell me a story about who I am

Tell me how I came to be...

Tell me what you felt when you first saw me

please tell me about me.

Tell me that you felt the space

where my tiny hand would have fit...

Tell me why you walked away

and why you ever quit.

I need to know that you loved me

I need to feel like I existed

The spaces you should have filled remain empty

and have left me feeling twisted.

Unprotected and wounded, a fragile heart alone

I tried to choke it down,

but no matter how I pushed and forced

it kept coming back around.

Tell me that you thought of me

please come to me now...

Speak to me of angels and mercy

Guide me, tell me how.

Tell me how I go forward,

and how to be loved...

tell me that you've got me

even tho from so far above.

I long to share my words with you

and ask for your advice

I long for a just a single moment

and would willingly sacrifice

If I could have just one to ask you

what I desperately need to know

If you had it to do over,

would your love for me show?

I see you everyday as I look into the mirror

and sometimes I imagine I hear you

and feel you drawing nearer.

Tell me that I meant something to you

that you never forgot my face

Tell me that I mattered

and that within your heart had my own special place.

Author's Note

November Gold
After 40 years, I am finally learning about my biological father from his amazing wife, 21 years after his passing. It's been a roller coaster of emotion for me, mostly good, mostly exciting and yet laced with so much unknown and so much sadness too.

Kiddo, I knew what this was about before I read the editors note. Brilliant. Your biological father hears you, and loves you and is proud of you I Know. I remember talking to him and being around him a bit before you were a twinkle in his eye, and I know he that he loves his little girl and is wrapping his arms around you. I believe he might even be one of your guardian angels. Bravo for writing this. In our struggles of self discovery, we learn many things. You kiddo have grown to a wonderful intelligent woman. Your writings and poetry and everything you so prove this. Excellent poem.

I so understand. My gf found her birth mother 18 years ago but the father has been kept secret. The courts just released the records and now her legal search begins. This is such an emotional ride for sure for anyone who's gone through this.. I'm hoping your search brings you all the things you were looking for :) xx

My biological father is alive, but this poem speaks to me. It's how I feel about him, he's not gone, but he's not around. I haven't seen him in years, and sometimes I think I see him but I know it's not him. There's still that small bit of hope, even though I know he's not going to be coming around at all and it makes me sad, yet also relieved because I know that if I did see him, I'm not sure I want him to see me cry and know that I miss him. I can't say I know how you feel, because I don't. But I can say, this poem can be related to on many different levels for many different reasons. Thank you for sharing.

I hate answering this question. It requires me to tell you who I am...the problem is that I am still learning about who I am everyday, and sometimes what I might tell you today, could change by this t.. more..
