My TreesA Poem by HopeJGAnother poem from my WIP 'Fight For Me'I used to love trees. The graceful arching branches always seemed to be a sanctuary. Something that meant safety. The leaves would catch whatever words I whispered up at them, leaving me with a peace unknown. Trees used to mean something special. Time meant just for us. We were together and nothing else had to matter. I showed you my soul beneath those branches. I gave you what I thought was my heart. In the end, you left it, and me, to wither among roots that could have and should have stood the test of time. I used to love trees. But now I see how fragile they really are. Even the oldest can be felled by a strong storm. Even the most stately can be deemed unworthy. Trees used to be my escape. They shouldn’t have turned into a monument of times and love lost. Of discarded pieces. Once I laughed beneath them with you, but no longer. Now, I see them and wish they could burn into the ash of the past. I wish you could too. © 2024 HopeJG |
