Winter's Last Wish

Winter's Last Wish

A Poem by HopeJG

Winter’s Last Wish

A wish made upon a failing star,

one that can’t come true,

as bruised, bare feet make

dark stains on the frost-kissed ground.

A bride fleeing beneath a moon

bleeding violent drops of crimson

onto the icy ground.

The now withered blooms of her

abandoned bouquet marring the hem

of her once-white gown as

she clutches a fading star in her palm,

begging as its feeble light pulses

with the beat of her broken heart.

She wishes selfishly for things beyond

the reach of her frost-bitten fingertips.

This wish made with tearstained face upturned,

staring with desperation at the darkened sky.
